The Dream Center is a resource for solutions to homelessness, hunger and the lack of education in the Los Angeles area. Founded in 1994, their services include food banks that serve over 20,000 people each month, residential transition programs for homeless families, abused women, those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, foster children, and much more.
In the winter of 2019, two members of Mission 316 church in San Marcos served on a 5-day mission at the Dream Center in LA. They had such rewarding experiences and were so impressed with the Dream Center’s work that they are organizing another short-term mission trip (STM) to Dream Center in September/October.
The epidemic of homelessness has been escalating in LA over recent years. With the current COVID-19 stay-at-home order, DC staff has been without their usual support of STM volunteers and therefore has had to work extremely hard, long hours to maintain their services. Once the stay-at-home restrictions are eased, we want to reinforce the DC volunteer base with a contingent of North County believers!
Anyone over 15 years of age with a heart for those Jesus described as: “the least of these brothers and sisters of mine” (Matthew 25:40), for seeing the power of Jesus’ grace in action, and having their faith boosted with life-changing experiences is welcome to join our church on this life-changing trip (ideal age range, 18-40).
You will serve by feeding and ministering to the homeless on Skid Row, serving meals to residents in the Dream Center cafeteria, sharing Jesus with children, delivering groceries in impoverished neighborhoods, supporting families with foster children, and praising God for the results at Angeles Temple.
The Dream Center has dormitory-style lodging, Monday through Thursday night; meals provided. The Dream Center LA campus is a very safe and uplifting environment for males and females of all ages, as are the outreach programs in which STM volunteers participate.
Two separate mission trips are planned for September 21-25, 2020 and October 5-9, 2020 (dependent upon social restrictions being lifted).
The normal cost is $240/person. Significant (partial or full) scholarships are available for anyone who wants to participate in the trip but needs financial assistance.
Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month Mission 316's own, Danny Williams, hosts a time of worship and prayer over Zoom for both staff and congregation members at 6:30 PM.
